Daily Sketch: A Bath and a Nap in Pastel, 2013

A bonus with two sketches today! I was saturated in pastel all day and painted the one of Mimi bathing in the kitchen in morning light first and the one of her on the bed in the afternoon.

There is nothing challenging about either of these, I just enjoyed the compositions. I began the day with a sketch of the dawn, then later worked that into a painting, and worked on a few other things as well, enjoying the variety of subjects.

You know those moments where you walk upon a scene of your cats doing something that you always want to remember, whether it’s a regular habit or a one-time thing? This scene was one of Stanley’s regular habits during his last few years; every afternoon he’d head upstairs with intent and I’d find him curled in the same spot on the bed. You can find this sketch on Portraits of Animals, or visit my gallery of daily sketches to see what’s available.
