Daily Photo: Will He Ever Grow Up?

two black cats
Would you just lick my forehead once?

Bean is thinking, “Please, mom?”

Mimi is thinking, “Will he ever grow  up?”

Is that a fine feline eye roll or what?

He just wants one lick one the forehead, and he’s purring so nicely.

Caught reflected in the antique mirror above the wardrobe, where the best feline reflections happen.

  • Cat’s body language is always so intriguing to me…the lowering of the head, the hooded eyes not really looking directly so as to not threaten, the lowered ears that say that’s close enough… and I love photos shot into a mirror. Reminds me to bring out some of mine!

    • Teri, this is mother and son, and while Mimi acts annoyed she will always relent, it’s only a matter of time and Bean has only to wait.

I’ve gotten a number of photos reflected in this mirror, and one of the best things is that the mirror itself reflects extra light on these black cats, while when I photograph them from the room side they are often completely dark or silhouetted. Just make sure to move out of the way! You should post some of yours.

    • Especially when you’re as cute as Bean–growing up would be a liability! Purrs to our house panther friends.

  • How embarrassing for me. I was so busy admiring Mimi and Jelly Bean that I completely missed the compositional aspect of the mirror.
Bernadette, I did that on an art history paper once. The professor did not grade me very kindly. Guess I did not learn my lesson!
Lovely photo, but even better story.

    • Meg, I was going to leave it up to the reader to see, but it’s also part of that “hidden kitty conversation” aspect of living with this family. I think we what we notice for a reason, probably your professor should have taken that into account!
