Daily Photo: The Magic Basket

Mewsette quietly appreciates the ambiance of the basket.

Mewsette experiences the ambiance within the basket. She needs time and space to fully appreciate its depths. And without the canvas liner, she’d also be finding its inner essence and interpreting its being.

Today it’s all about baskets. I placed one of my biggest display baskets—it’s actually a laundry basket with a canvas liner—at the top of the stairs after I’d finally unpacked all the art and hung it back on the walls. No sooner was it on the floor than there was a cat in it, of course, and soon more than one as EVERYONE had to take their turn in the basket.

Though it nearly blocked my access to my stairs, I decided to use the magic basket to my advantage. I had work to do. Work that, believe it or not, I did not want feline pawprints to tiptoe through. Hmmm…works as a cat trap too! Kept them busy during a long late night of work.

It works as a trap too.

The basket was so full of magic that you’ll be seeing a little more from this basket a little later in my daily sketch.

What other photos did I post on or around this date?

I Think We’ve Been Discovered, 2013

“We’ve been discovered.”

Giuseppe went ahead to scout the food situation in Emeraude’s bathroom, opening the door just enough to get in, as Sunshine and Bean waited outside. He was a little surprised to find me in there, and Emeraude gave him a withering look when he inquired into the availability of her food.

Snow!, 2013

Mewsette leans out the window to experience the snow.

Mewsette is the only one brave enough to actually get snow falling on herself, though all four were at the window when I opened it to fill the feeders. I let them get a good sniff, then I make them all back away while I actually fill the feeders. They are better than another crop of cats at this window—years ago, both Kublai and Allegro launched themselves outside, right over my head.

Someone else was not at all interested in snow. In fact, some tough little street cat turned around and went right back inside after a brief tour of the deck, where she sat and sulked. Really, Mimi tried to make the best of it, had a good scratch and sniffed a few things, but I was by myself outside in the light snow, filling the feeders in the 20 degree temperatures. The birds get more on Sundays than other days just because we have more time to watch them.

Postprandial Tabby Nap, 2011

Tabby Nap

I wonder if my neighbor’s kitty had a turkey dinner and is now surrendering to the unavoidable nap as the sun sets, leaving his windowsill in shadow. He just looks so contented and he’s usually very shy and leaves the window when I look at him.

I also like the details of the peeling paint and the nearly monochromatic theme.

I’m thankful he has a happy home, and I’m sure he is too.

I hope you had a beautiful Thanksgiving, and if it’s not a holiday where you are, I hope you simply had a beautiful day!

    • He was very shy, Tabbies–he could see me and disappear in the time it took me to focus my zoom lens.
