Daily Photo: Teen and Tabby

Cassidy and Baby.

“After a week apart & long drive home, this is how I found the girls this morning. Of course Baby is asking why I wake her up for picture time. Those two are peas in a pod,” their mom says.

This is my great-niece Cassidy and my great-cat Baby. They are great friends! Cassidy is not quite a teen, she’s twelve, but she’s in double digits and we’ll give her credit for that.

My niece and her family live in Savannah GA. There are three kids, a dog Bingo, a cat Elsa, and various reptiles in the house. Before most of the reptiles and about the time she began school, Cassidy, the youngest, asked to have her own kitty. The house was pretty full already, but my niece talked it over with Cassidy and determined Cassidy really did want a kitty, and she would be responsible for the kitty. They went to the Humane Society of Greater Savannah and got to know a few kitties before choosing the tabby girl with white paws. The two have been BFFs since. Baby sleeps with Cassidy and knows that Cassidy’s room is her room, but she’s also still part of the rest of the family. “Baby missed her very much. I tried to be her mama, but we’d look at each other, not the same,” Jennifer said about Baby while Cassidy was away.

Because I’d received this photo from my niece, I decided to feature two sketches I’d done of Cassidy with the family cat Elsa when Cassidy was four years old, just a toddler from photos Jennifer had sent at that time. Take a look at the sketches, and while you’re there, take a look at the bedspread in the reference photos. Some things never change! Retro flowers and kitties.

My other niece and her daughters have cats too. You can see them here with their cat Dickie who I fostered here for a while.
