Daily Photo: Someone Was A Little Chilly

lump undercovers
Giuseppe was a little chilly this afternoon.

We had a somewhat chilly night and Giuseppe took that seriously into the afternoon. He’s settled nicely under the quilt with a big patch of sun right on the spot. What a reason to smile.

It’s Thursday, Where is Mlle.? 2013
two black cats
Giuseppe literally leans on his brother during the tense wait for Mlle. to send a magic message.

I clearly remember that Mlle. promised she’d only be away for exactly seven days, from Friday morning to Thursday, today. Today is Thursday, right? Why hasn’t she written? It’s raining here today and Mama Bernadette told me it is raining in Verona as well. Does that mean Mlle. is watching the rain? Is she watching swans on the lake? What is a swan? What is a lake? I’ve been waiting every single day here on this desk and no magic message. I don’t know what to do.

You know what, Giuseppe? Relax. You’re keeping me awake.

I haven’t told him yet there is a magic message waiting for him…

Watching Chickadees, 2012
black cat looking up out window
Jelly Bean observes the chickadees with rapt attention.

Lots of little birds are fledging at this time of the year, and after we filled the feeder and added a suet cake this morning a tiny flock of busy chickadees descended on them, the parents busily pulling seeds from the feeder and suet from the cake while baby chickadees clung to lilac branches, cheeping frantically and flapping their wings in warp speed. There hasn’t been a show this good on CAT TV since, well, probably yesterday when we were descended upon by sparrow parents and babies who succeeded in cleaning out the feeder.

At one point or another each of the cats, and several together in groups, sat looking up out the window in complete alertness. The best photo of the lot was of JB, unmoving, whiskers fanned and whisker pad all in a bunch, white brushes in his ears alight in morning sun. He is the image of rapt attention.

Feline Paperweight, 2012

Kelly the Paperweight

Who doesn’t have one of these?!

Kelly enjoys the comfort of the layers of paper on my desk. In part it’s there because there’s always a cat sleeping on top of it, and I would never dream of moving the cat to get that work done. I just wait till they wake up and move!
