Daily Photo: Second-floor Squirrel Watch

Bella and Mimi watch for the squirrel to fly past the window.
Bella and Mimi watch for the squirrel to fly past the window.

Mimi and the young lady meet at my studio window to watch for the squirrel’s antics on the upper level. I could hear him just to the left of the window in the river birch and could see the branch shaking as he ran around on it, but never saw him. The girls did though, and later we all heard him squawking at the girls. Sometimes he takes a mad leap into the spruce, and from there to the porch roof, flying right past the window.

There he is!
There he is!

Mimi is finally feeling pretty well, eating well, active, her usual curious and pleasant self. Of course, she is getting a steroid, anti-reflux and an antibiotic along with reiki and acupuncture so we may just have symptoms under control, but at least she is feeling normal and eating well, and she only lost 10 ounces, but she only weighed 7 pounds and 4 ounces to begin with.

It was almost three weeks ago that she quit eating, and two weeks ago I took her to emergency. The next two weeks took a lot of time in observing her, asking questions, trying different treatments and medications, subcutaneous fluids and syringe feeding, lots of different canned foods and cooked foods and baby food, and reporting back to everyone who was helping me with her to get her to this point. We will run her medications through a standard dose and then wean her off of them and see what happens. Underneath it all there is still a reason she was vomiting and not eating occasionally, and why she was vomiting multiple times a day and did not eat for an entire week.

I have an appointment with the internal medicine specialist on May 18 which seems like forever away and they’ve upped the ante on what may need to be done, but I’m hoping to get her in before then and also that we may have been able to eliminate some of the tests or treatments. Until then, I hope to get that weight back on Mimi and we’re just going to enjoy some time together as the weather gets nicer every day, though I’m going to keep an eye on her and continue taking notes.

And the girls are going to keep watch on those squirrels.

Thank you all for staying with us through this! And for your donations, purchases, kind thoughts and continued good wishes. It’s been a long couple of weeks but Mimi and I appreciate being able to share small victories and seeing all your comments. And I hope to get caught up with all that is due to be done here in my studio, and ironically get some of the artwork done that Mimi has inspired in these past two weeks I’ve been focusing on her!

Mimi and Shadow

Mimi ponders her day, perfectly placed in the warm spring sunlight through the window.

The shape of her shadow looks as if she should be sitting tall with her head upright, yet she is sitting in a typical cat shape and looking forward. There’s somethign simply beautiful about cats and sunshine.
