Daily Photo: Easy Sunday on Wicker
Mimi begins her anniversary week with a nice easy nap on the wicker settee.

A Waning Moon at Daybreak
I happened to see this when I awoke on Friday morning. Though it was still pretty dark I didn’t want to turn on any lights so I could enjoy the sight, with cats all around my feet and up on the windowsill. And I wrote a poem.
A waning moon at daybreak
awakens, slips sleepily over the horizon
begins her transit when the day is new
left our nighttime dreams unilluminated.
Venus knows
it’s only a phase
soon enough she will wax
full over the horizon before
brother sun has bid goodnight
and fill our dreams with amazing stories.

Daily Photo Reprise: Five for Dinner, Please
Someone was glad to see me come home after a long day! Mostly because they wanted dinner, but they performed so nicely for their food.
They rarely line up on the cabinet anymore, but when they do they neatly line up in order of size while they eat. And they are all eating standing up, possibly because there isn’t a whole lot of room up there.
I’m glad I always have my camera handy because I never would have gotten this if I’d had to go and get it! Their birthday, July 26, is coming soon as well as Mimi’s Homecoming Day and they day they all arrived here, July 29, so you’ll be seeing more of them through the rest of July, including lots of baby pictures. Whatever they do, I think they are the five most beautiful black cats in all the world. Read more about this wonderful family of black cats.

Window Kitty: An Evening Nap
This spotted kitty is pretty well camouflaged against this lace curtain. I walked to the library for a performance in the music hall the other night and I always see interesting things on my way there and back. And what a bonus—a kitty napping in a window, and one with a pretty lace curtain and a peeling sash for extra interest! That’s the sort of thing, all the details, the different patterns, that make me think in black and white, so here she is.
Then she stretched out on her side and laid down, and you’d barely know there’s a kitty there, except all the flowers in the curtain are celebrating!
Here is what she looked like as I walked past the house. I think this will make a nice painting some day.

Kelly With a Head Full of Numbers, 2011
Perhaps that is what caused her to fall asleep on the job last night as I worked late at my desk. A head full of numbers works that way for me.
Do you see some similarity with her sleeping position and that of the cat on the mug where I keep my pens? It’s a 1991 Suzy Becker cartoon of a cat sleeping on a desk next to a computer and says “Make Your Own Hours”. Well, I guess we do, but I never realized purchasing that mug might be prophetic!
Kelly’s been spending time upstairs in the studio where it’s cooler and quieter, two things she prefers, and she can always supervise my work and drink my paint water, two of her favorite activities. But I had some projects for my computer downstairs and she got lonely up there on her cool marble windowsill and decided to join us down in the hot office on the messy desk. I was glad to see her come down and spend some time with us here.
Later, Mr. Sunshine joined her, and they were ear to ear for a while. I’m always certain they are planning something, any two or more cats, when they do this, but Kelly? Well, perhaps she’ll learn some new games and grow a little more comfortable with the kids. They really do try with Kelly, and when she’s feeling relaxed, or when she’s fast asleep, things are fine between her and the kids.
All six are on my desk or the adjoining windowsills right now.

Feline Photos from Portraits of Animals!
Oh my goodness! I think that needs to be her name. Every time I look at her that’s what I say because she’s so cute. Ophelia is a formerly feral foster who came to me in September 2015. By July 2016 she was pretty relaxed, as you can see. But she is such a bundle of cuteness that she has to think her name is “Oh My Goodness”! That cuteness got her adopted by a very understanding couple who adore her every move. Read more, and purchase.
