Daily Photo: Back in Black and Green

black cats on green sink
Jelly Bean and Mewsette wait for me to turn on the faucet for them.

Mewsette is looking mighty cute with her head tilted just so because she wants me to turn the faucet on so she can have a drink. So does Jelly Bean—in fact, he was in there looking desperate before anyone else.

The bathroom has been occupied by some other cat pretty much straight through from June 16, 2014 until Monday at about 5:00 p.m. when Bert left. The bathroom was where the Four grew up, and even with all the napping and playing and hanging out in the kitchen and on my desk and in my studio, the bathroom is still their favorite room. I hate to take it away from them, but now and then we need to give another kitty, or kitties…a chance.  You can see a few more photos of them from Tuesday in our farewell post to Bert.

Bella did not grow up in there, but the way she moved back in for afternoon naps you might think she had. In addition to ease of use, I’m looking forward to more compositions in black and green.

Snow Shower, 2014

Mewsette quietly watches the snow fall outside the window.

Reminiscent of a daily sketch featuring Bella at that same window watching a snow shower.

Today’s Catpile, 2014
four black cats
They’ve put their heads together.

Yep, that’s really what it looks like when four black cats decide to have an afternoon nap on the bed. One by one they answered the call of the warm wool afghan and tucked themselves together like puzzle pieces, leaving Mimi and me to stop by and look at them now and then.

Below, all curled together, and they are purring. And delightful to press your hands into on a cold afternoon—they don’t even mind cold hands in a warm belly.

And they’re purring.

Mewsette wakes up for a brief moment as Bean resettles himself after a quick bath. Back to sleep everyone.

Computer? What Computer?, 2013
black cat with computer keyboard
Computer? What computer?

What made you think I was interested in your computer?

You turned your head so fast when I looked at you that your face is a blur.

So I can’t turn my head but you think I’m looking at your stupid computer? What would I want with it anyway?

It’s not you, it’s Mr. Sunshine I’m concerned about.

What does he have to do with me?

Don’t act all innocent. He’s right on the floor ready to jump up.

And do what? Order something?

Oh, Bean. I’m going to put my keyboard and mouse away just to be sure.

We weren’t going to do anything with it!

Bean, you are as transparent as you are cute. Don’t let your brother lead you astray.

No, really! We weren’t going to do anything!!

Your brother just snuck out of the room, Bean, stop protesting.

Mama Bernadette, [purrrrs] you didn’t really think I was going to do something with your computer, did you? [twirls around, bats eyelashes, purrrs and acts cute] I’m too cute to be bad!

I know you don’t have it in you, Bean, and I don’t mean in your nature, I mean up here in your head [kitty headlock].

I could never do a thing like that! [purring louder and giving headbutts]

You’re more correct than you realize, Bean.

Cozy, 2011
two black catson afghan
Cozy and colorful, four a couple of black cats.

Look what I found on my bed this afternoon.

Mewsette and Mr. Sunshine curl together on the muted colors of the wool afghan. The two of them have thick somewhat longish fur, not long enough to even be considered shaggy, but both of them are so soft and plushy it’s difficult not to lie down and dig my fingers into their fur as they sleep. Some cats would object to this, but these guys are so accustomed to me handling them it’s as if I’m one of them.

It’s too bad Mr. Sunshine is too dark to be able to tell how he’s curled up, one hind leg under his head, paw over his face, head upside down.

But I love Mewsette’s one very green eye. She has the greenest eyes.
