Daily Photo: A Very Busy Monday for Kittens and Cats
Kittens on kitchen duty! Smokie and Bella took their turn supervising me as I took care of some work and social networking. Mimi, in the background had set them up then took a break to have a little bath.
She watches a little bird TV as the two get accustomed to their new duties, learning that supervising humans is a large and important part of the house panther day.
And we had a visitor today, Chanel, who stopped by to pick up a few auction items and say hello to the household. Smokie and Bella were out and about, and Smokie watched her approach out the window, then moved up to greet her! A first! He makes progress every day. And Bella, though she’s not pictured, remained in her safe spot by the Bird TV window.
Mimi found her to be a good place to settle for some chipmunk watching out the front door.
Later Mr. Sunshine thought he’d like to send a text before settling on Chanel’s lap for a brief purring nap.
And last of all, the worst photo of five black cats who I caught just after they’d been completely lined up watching a chipmunk on the porch—and the kitty you see in the center is Bella! It’s the Five minus Mewsette, who was snoozing in the basement.
I had my camera on different settings from photographing at a short distance in kitchen light, and I couldn’t change it over in time to catch them correctly—trying to get the settings changed is how I missed the lineup. It’s still good to catch Bella being buddies with the gang.
What other photos did I feature on this date?

There’s No Catnip, 2013
I don’t understand, when we saw you with the basket we had hopes you’d come back with something useful, like catnip. There is nothing in here we like, and I want to know why.
There’s basil in there, you like basil, it’s your honorary middle name.
Basil isn’t catnip. What is any of this good for anyway?
This is for my dinner.
But what about our dinner?
You are cats and you don’t eat vegetables.
But you have all these useless green things in here, why isn’t there any catnip?
If I grow catnip all of you get mad because all the cats in the neighborhood come to our yard to eat the catnip.
Can’t you keep them away?
Sure, I could sit out in the yard all day and guard the catnip plant. Then we’d be living in the Escort because that doesn’t pay the bills.
We even sent our Mama Mimi out there with you in the hopes she’d convince you to grow some.
Mimi has other business when she’s out in the yard.
Humans are so unreliable.
So much for two squares and a roof over their head…

Having a Drink at the Sink, 2011
Drinking from the faucet each day in the mint green sink, each of the Fantastic Four has a different style. I turn the faucet on to barely more than a drip, so it takes a little ingenuity to catch the water. I managed to catch two of them in the act, in part because they conveniently stand so that the light from the window angles onto them, unlike the other two who face the opposite direction and don’t have as much light on their faces.
Here, Mr. Sunshine laps at the water as it falls from the faucet. Lap, lap, lap, he wrinkles up his nose and usually ends up with his ears folded back and water all over his face. Well, they all end up with water all over their faces.
Below, Giuseppe discovered that if he just opened his mouth a little and held it under the faucet, the water would simply run in. How convenient!
