Daily Sketch Reprise: Colorful Dreams

Mewsette, Sunshine and Giuseppe enjoy a nap on my studio floor. I don’t actually have that many beds for my cats but toss whatever older fleece, crochet and knit things I have on the floor where it seems appropriate, in this case, it’s in front of the furnace vent. It’s also behind a door, and on cold days like today it’s about the warmest spot in the house. Sometimes all five pile up there, and I can hardly open and close the door.

Note that for once they are not their signature colors—Giuseppe is Sunshine color, Sunshine is Bean color and Mewsette is Giuseppe color. Initially they were white with the black outlines, and I didn’t want to color them in black because they’d all melt together, and I also wanted to convey the colorful scene. And I’ll bet they were having colorful dreams for all the lip smacking and sighing I heard.

I began the habit with the blankets and such because some cats pee a lot where they shouldn’t; Peaches was famous for this. Washing cat bedding was a heck of a lot easier through years of rescues who had both health and emotional issues when all I had to do was toss blankets in the wash. Plus, they love new beds for about two weeks, then they never want to see them again, even when I pack them away for a year or more. And these guys need room to stretch out!

What other sketches did I share on this date?

Bottlecap Hockey, 2012

That’s exactly what it was, a plastic cap from a water bottle upside down that made a really enticing noise when swatted across the floor, or around my feet as I worked at my work table. Mr. Sunshine and Jelly Bean had a great time of it, trading out with Giuseppe. Mewsette was not in play tonight. Mama Bernadette pulled the out-of-bounds bottlecaps from under the furniture. Mlle. Daisy, the French-Canadian beauty enamored of Giuseppe, will be glad to know he also plays hockey.

Right, try drawing cats while they’re playing feline hockey. This was as much memory as it was actual sketch!
