Cats For Adoption: Our New Facebook Page

pittsburgh cat
New page for cats for adoption, Pittsburgh CAT.

The rescue group I work with now has a Facebook page to feature our rescued kittens and cats! Visit “Pittsburgh CAT” on Facebook to see a gallery of cats for adoption plus opportunities to help support foster homes and the health and welfare of kittens in our care.

Each cat and kitten has a name and basic details such as age and gender plus details of their purr-sonality and a story if one is available.

An important part of the TNR process is to pull all the kittens for socialization and rehoming if that’s possible. We work with a variety of shelters and rescues to help find homes for these little ones and adults as well, but sometimes it’s just up to the foster and the group to find a home. Homes do need to be found or foster homes would soon fill permanently and have no place to send new rescued kittens and cats. I can tell you that from experience!

So even if you can’t adopt, you can still share the page and help these cats and kittens find loving forever homes.

Go to www.facebook.com/pittsburghcat

PLEASE NOTE: This page is not to ask questions about HCMT clinics or request help with homeless cats. This is only for adoption inquiries. Any other messages or posts won’t get much attention—instead, go to Homeless Cat Management Team on Facebook or call (412) 321-4060.

You can make a tax-deductible donation to Homeless Cat Management Team at any time by visiting JustGive.org, a page where registered organizations can collect charitable donations with no fees, and the deductions are still 100% tax deductible. In the upper right of the page enter “HCMT” or “Homeless Cat Management Team” if you want to type it out, and the search will return a link which, when clicked, will open a popup box with HCMT’s financial information and a link to donate. You can donate as little as $10.

If you are donating toward the care of a cat I’ve featured, please forward your receipt to my email.

Treats For Homeless Cats And Caretakers

There are two ways you can help this effort by making even a small tax-deductible donation to the Homeless Cat Management Team and their network of rescuers and caretakers  and I’ll give you a $10 gift certificate to my Etsy shop for you to use for your own shopping, to give as a gift, or keep for later, good for $10.00 off your order of $25.00 or more. First, you can make a donation through JustGive.org as explained above. Even though I’m giving you a gift certificate your gift is still fully tax-deductible as a charitable contribution because you’re not receiving a gift from HCMT, that comes from me, and I’m doing this of my own free will and get no benefit from Homeless Cat Management Team or for it. Amazon Wish Lists

The Amazon Wish List for our group’s foster kittens.

I’ve lost count of the number of kittens in foster among our volunteers, and August is usually the month with the highest surrender numbers at Pittsburgh shelters. Part of the mission with TNR is to not return the kittens—once we’ve rescued them we socialize them and put them up for adoptiont.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs, like Auntie. If you can help with just one purchase from the kitten wish list on Amazon.com you’d make some kittens and a rescuer very happy.

We have two wish lists at the moment, the one hosted by Margo which several of you have donated through already and a new one hosted by Tarra that includes items for adult cats.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.
