Cats for Adoption: Kitties Who Are Too Busy To Care

Some kitties end up with a few visible reminders of their life before rescue. Most of them pay no attention at all to these reminders. Neither should we aside from acknowledging that this sweet fluffy kitty is a survivor, and being grateful that someone cared enough to pull her from a really bad situation and give her love and care and now we can adopt her. Here is what Willow’s foster says of her:

Say hi to Willow! She is a sweetheart. She is very outgoing and is a non-stop purring machine. She will let you pet her forever and will give you her belly for belly rubs. She loves playing with her toy mice, and running around with her sisters. She plays non stop, getting her to hold still long enough for a pic is a challenge. Can you open your heart to this sweet little girl, Willow?

Willow says the ear tip and having 1 eye just gives her more character!

They weren’t sure if the litter of four kittens would socialize enough to be put up for adoption so they were ear-tipped when they were spayed and neutered. No worry about being socialized!

Now about that eye, really, who would notice with a kitty who’s almost too busy to sit still for a photo! and is so cute with all those spots! It was hoped that Willow’s eye could recover from the infection, but apparently it will not, so it will be removed in the next week or two and she’ll be ready to go home with someone who will love her forever after that.

With those spots she's too cute to care if she looks different!

Other kitties I’ve shared on Facebook

I can’t help it, there are so many, and if I had the time I’d share several cats a day. Unfortunately I wouldn’t run out of rescued cats to share for adoption. But whenever I get a few spare minutes on Facebook and a few kitties needing homes run past me—literally—I share as many as I can. Here are a few more. And they aren’t all house panthers!

Podo and Polly Pocket

The information for Podo and Polly Pocket’s adoption is in the Facebook post, but you would call Amy at 412-296-9233. If you can access Facebook, please read the full post.

Two very special rescued house panthers are looking for a home. Trapped with a stray/feral colony, Polly Pocket has a fractured pelvis after apparently being hit by a car at some point in her past, and on top of that she was suffering from pyometra, a deadly uterine infection. Podo developed pododermatitis, an infection in paws and sometimes nose that causes swelling and cracking of the skin. So glad they were rescued! Both are spayed/neutered and much healthier right now, UTD on shots and FIV/FeLV negative. Both are young and by behavior were probably abandoned rather than feral, still a little shy, but love belly rubs. They need a special human to care for them forever.

Skittles

Look at this beautiful young tortie girl, Skittles! She was trapped with a stray/feral colony, but the neighbors there report there were coyotes killing the cats, so she can’t go back there. She’s a little shy but affectionate and friendly and will no doubt grow less shy after more experience with people. She’s about two years old, spayed and UTD on everything, and ready to give life as an indoor cat a chance. Please respond to the post if you can’t live another day without Skittles!

Lester

We’ve seen Lester here before—he’s an awesome young rescued house panther who loves everyone, people, cats, dogs and probably anything else he meets. He is FIV+, but so what?

You might wonder where some of the rescued cats come from who can be adopted from Pittsburgh C.A.T. This friendly and outgoing house panther was living at a campground in Slippery Rock PA, an hour or so north of Pittsburgh, where one of our rescuers happened to camp overnight. His ease with people told her he had been a pet, either lost, left behind or dumped there, and she couldn’t leave him, so home he came when her camping trip was over. He tested FIV+, but FIV+ cats can easily live with other cats as it’s only spread by deep bite wounds, and that takes one serious fight, but Lester is such a friendly cat that’s not likely to happen after a careful introduction. He loves dogs too! Give Lester a happy new year and give him a happy new home!

Jakob

A kitty who is vocal and very playful, but also likes to cuddle and sleep on your lap. And he’s so cute! Who could ask for more? Jakob is just over a year old so he’s neutered and UTD on shots, no kitten training about what to scratch and where to sleep–he’s ready to move in. Every time you look at him you’ll smile! Adoption fee is $50. Make a kitty happy!

Amazon Wish Lists

The Amazon Wish List for our group’s foster kittens.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs. Pittsburgh CAT has a number of wish lists that include foods for feeding neo-natal kittens like KMR, and other lists that include the best kitten foods, adult cat foods, food and materials for feral cats, and preferred toys and litter.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.
