Cats for Adoption: Fluffy and Bonk, Homes of Their Own

long-haired tortie cat
Fluffy the model.

A friend is working independently on a large colony TNR project at a trailer park west of Pittsburgh along with two smaller projects near her home. These two cats were trapped in one of the colonies near her home and she is fostering while she works out the other projects, but the number of cats and kittens to be spayed and neutered and held overnight at the larger project makes fostering difficult. Finding a home for these two cats would be a great help. She has provided the descriptions below.

. . . . . . .

Fluffy

Fluffy gets up close and purr-sonal.

Fluffy was trapped as part of a TNR project on August 2. It turned out she was already spayed. She was underweight, infested with fleas and had an upper respiratory infection. I did find Fluffy’s owners and they were no longer able to care for her and gave me permission to find her a new home. She’s about 5 years old, spayed, has been vaccinated for rabies and distemper and tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia. She’s was also treated with Advantage Multi and de-wormed. She is extremely affectionate. She wants to snuggle and be held. She will rub her face on your face and put her paws on your face and give you nose kisses. Though Fluffy was living outside with many other cats, she seems to want to be an only kitty.  Introductions with our other cats have not gone well. She was ok with my older, mellow dog, but did not like our younger rambunctious dog.  We think she would be best as an only pet with older children.

. . . . . . .

Bonk aka Bonkers

black cat
Bonkers can amuse himself.

Bonk was trapped as part of a TNR project on August 2. He was underweight, infested with fleas, had hair loss, scabs, and sores all over his body from his flea infestation. He’s all better now and he’s a wonderful kitty.  Bonk is full of personality and a form of endless entertainment. He runs around and trills and meows at everything.  He’s extremely curious and bouncy.  He has learned what to do with toys and loves his play time. He’s also affectionate and that’s how he got his name. He was always head bonking us when we were trying to take care of him. Since we brought him in, it’s like he discovered this whole new life and wants to absorb every ounce of it. He’s great with our cats and while a bit nervous around the dogs, he’s ok with them around. I can’t even put into words how amazing this boy is. Nothing fazes him. If one our cats swats at him, he just trills at them and bounces away to do something else. If we did not have so many cats, I would absolutely keep him.

Bonk is neutered and tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia. He has his rabies and distemper vaccines. He has been treated for fleas and is de-wormed. Bonk will need to stay consistently on flea treatment to keep him from getting itchy again. He seems to have a bit of flea allergy dermatitis.

If you’d like to give either of these wonderful kitties a new home, please contact [email protected]. Located in Ambridge, west of Pittsburgh, PA. Adopters are screened carefully and there is a $50.00 adoption fee.

If you can’t adopt either Fluffy or Bonk, you can still help with that enormous TNR project! The spays and neuters are being done two to four at a time through shelter TNR programs at $35.00 each and you can help her by donating the cost of a spay or neuter–since most of the cats are black, you’ll get a thank you from me if you let me know!

Amazon Wish Lists

The Amazon Wish List for our group’s foster kittens.

I’ve lost count of the number of kittens in foster among our volunteers, and kittens are still coming into our foster group even though it’s October. Part of the mission with TNR is to not return the kittens—once we’ve rescued them we socialize them and put them up for adoption.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs, like Auntie. If you can help with just one purchase from the kitten wish list on Amazon.com you’d make some kittens and a rescuer very happy.

We have two wish lists at the moment, the one hosted by Margo which several of you have donated through already and a new one hosted by Tarra that includes items for adult cats.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.
