Cats for Adoption: Charm, Scarlett (and Friend), and a Bunch of Kittens!

Charm being charming in the basket.
Charm being charming in the basket.

Despite what Charm herself might think, she really is up for adoption. Now that she has gained some weight and her fur is filling in, and she’s learned a little bit about manners, I’ll be happy to tell you what a joy she is to be around. She is silly and playful, just discovering toys, races around the house for no good reason, and chases her tail now and then. She gets along well with my crowd and fit herself into their habits with very little contention, though now and then she oversteps her bounds and walks on someone or steals their food. She is ready to greet anyone who comes to the door and follows guests around the house. She can easily amuse herself but io988888888io9kl — including walking on the computer keyboard at every opportunity—but also loves to hang with the human, on my lap, on the back of my chair, on my desk. She hasn’t made a break for the door in weeks, but she still has a little orneriness in her that makes her fun. If you’d like to live with a cat who will give you lots of attention and play with you, Charm is the kitty for you.

If you are interested in adopting Charm through Pittsburgh CAT, fill out an application and someone will let me know you want to meet Charm.

Scarlett and Mia

Because I took Scarlett to the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society I also feel responsible for her being adopted and promised I’d do all I could to promote her sweet little elven self. It was wonderful to see her again over the weekend. She’s so petite and compact and round, she really does look like a plump little elf cat. She is so affectionate, sitting up to meet your hand when you reach to pet her, loving laps or leg rubs, and purring a lot. One of the best words I can find for her is “pleasant”. She is abut four years old. If you’d like a “lap cat”, one who likes to snuggle, will be happy whenever you want to pet her, and no doubt would purr through the night to snuggle next to you, Scarlett is the girl.

She was in a cage at WPHS until she was placed in a cat colony where she met Mia, and the two were tight friends in no time. Mia is friendly—just hold out your hand and let her go to work, rubbing into it, walking circles around it, occasionally looking up at you for a nose tap—and playful, and a little uptight, which Scarlett helps to ease for her, cuddling up next to her and licking her face and neck. She is about five years old and even a little bit smaller than Scarlett. Where Scarlett likes the floor and a chair and your lap, Mia likes the top of the cat tree and the back of your chair.

Scarlett and Mia don’t have to be adopted together, but it would be so nice for the two of them. They are available through the WPHS where cat adoptions are 50% off through the end of June, so you can adopt them both for the price of adopting one! Scarlett is ID# 196949 and Mia is ID#196994. Visit the WPHS website or just visit the shelter to meet them!

Amazon Wish Lists

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs. Pittsburgh CAT has a number of wish lists that include foods for feeding neo-natal kittens like KMR, and other lists that include the best kitten foods, adult cat foods, food and materials for feral cats, and preferred toys and litter.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.
