Cats for Adoption: Bonnie and Clyde

two black cats
Bonnie and Clyde

Surely you’d like a set of house panthers with easily recognizable names! Sister Bonnie is long-haired and brother Clyde is sleekly short-haired. They will be ready for their new homes after Halloween, but Pittsburgh CAT is taking applications now. They are 5 to 6 months old and were found outside. They were thought to be feral and were ear-tipped when spayed and neutered, but it turns out, they weren’t! They are a bit shy but friendly. They would prefer to stay together.

Their foster says, “They are both really affectionate once they get over their shyness…..and they LOVE feathers to play with!”

Bonnie and Clyde are located just west of Pittsburgh, PA. They are spayed and neutered and have age-appropriate vaccinations, and can be adopted through PittsburghCat.

Opportunities to Help Cats

Collecting for Reward to Catch Killer in Gruesome Kitten Killing Case

Over the weekend a colony feeder in Sheraden, near Pittsburgh, who offers shelter for homeless cats and kittens in her neighborhood, found a kitten she’d been feeding had been kitten killed and mutilated and left on her front porch (warning, it’s a graphic explanation): http://www.wpxi.com/news/news/gruesome-case-animal-abuse-reported-sheraden/nhsM3/. It’s the second time kittens she’s feeding outdoors have been killed. She made a police report and is pursuing the person who killed the kitten. Animal abuse is now a felony in all states and the person faces both animal abuse and trespassing charges.

Co-workers of colony feeder Judy Jessop are trying to organize a fund to offer a reward for the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this horrible crime. Judy is a friend of FosterCat and if no one can claim the reward, it will go to selected cat charities.  If you’d like to donate to help catch this killer, send your donation in the form of a check to: Janice M. DeCarolis, Legal Administrative Assistant, Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, 600 Grant Street, 44th Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. If you’d like to make a donation electronically, please contact me.

Miles for Meows: Running for Homeless Cat Management Team on November 9

Rescuer Deanna Ann Boggs is running the EQT Pittsburgh 10 miler on Sunday November 9 and wants to donate any pledges to the Homeless Cat Management Team. She has a GoFundMe page set up and is asking people to donate $1 for each mile they think she will RUN keeping her time under 12:00 per mile. If you’d like to donate to help her, visit her GoFundMe page.

Help Feral Cats This Winter

We not only provide spay and neuter surgery as well as vaccines for the community cats we care for, we also provide emergency veterinary care, food when necessary, and we make shelters for them to live in over the winter. We’ve had a few shelter-making parties with Rubbermaid containers and styrofoam coolers, but we are running short of supplies. Right now we need $188 to buy tape and plastic so we can convert coolers into shelters this weekend and a few weekends in the future, so we can distribute shelters to as many cats as we can. Anything you’d like to donate would be greatly appreciated, though these donations are not tax-deductible. You can PayPal to [email protected].

Amazon Wish Lists

amazon wish list for kittens
The Amazon Wish List for our group’s foster kittens.

I’ve lost count of the number of kittens in foster among our volunteers, and August is usually the month with the highest surrender numbers at Pittsburgh shelters. Part of the mission with TNR is to not return the kittens—once we’ve rescued them we socialize them and put them up for adoptiont.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs, like Auntie. If you can help with just one purchase from the kitten wish list on Amazon.com you’d make some kittens and a rescuer very happy.

We have two wish lists at the moment, the one hosted by Margo which several of you have donated through already and a new one hosted by Tarra that includes items for adult cats.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.
