Cats for Adoption: Natasha, Who Will Be An Indoor Kitty, Please

Natasha, who could resist?
Natasha, who could resist?

I have a soft spot for dilute kitties, those lovely peach and gray patches and speckles and their (usually) lovely green eyes. And the coincidence is too much—one of the kittens from “my first litter”, the dilute tortie who was adopted by my brother and eventually came back to me, I had originally named Natasha to pair up with her brother Boris, named for some great uncle on my mother’s side back when I use still using family names for fosters (I ran out long ago), and in a play on the Bullwinkle cartoons. I love every dilute tortie I meet, especially, and because of Peaches I love the calicos too. Really, I just love them all.

Natasha is a special rescue because she was originally to be part of a TNR colony, but she was brave enough to let her rescuers know that she would like to try life indoors. This is why Pittsburgh C.A.T. was founded, to help kitties like Natasha. The goal of HCMT is to reduce the populations of homeless cats by spaying and neutering, and the goal of Pittsburgh C.A.T. is to foster and find the perfect forever home for every kitten and cat we can possibly help. Natasha is one of the successes of this partnership.

Natasha’s story…

This gorgeous little girl is Natasha. A dilute tortie, she has swirls of peach, gray, and silver fur — beautiful! Natasha was trapped as part of efforts to spay and neuter colony cats, but it turned out that she was friendly and very vocal about not wanting to go back outside! While a little frightened initially, Natasha has been playful, affectionate, and talkative in her foster home. She climbs into her foster mom’s lap for some snuggle time and seems perfectly content to cuddle for awhile. She does like to play, too, but is more focused on quality pets and scratches at this point! She is very gentle and sweet but definitely has a bit of the decisiveness associated with torties!

Natasha seems tolerant of other cats but would probably be just fine as an only cat as well. Because of her initial shyness, we’re recommending, for now, that she go to a quieter home. Natasha is past kittenhood but still young, about a year old.

You can meet Natasha at the Pittsburgh Mills PetSmart!

Adopting from Pittsburgh C.A.T.

Gizmo obviously won’t be ready to adopt for a few weeks at least, but if you can’t wait to meet him all Pittsburgh C.A.T. adoptions begin with our application. After it’s reviewed you’ll be contacted about meeting your cat or kitten. All cats have been fostered in homes and are healthy, spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines.

Also look for more adoptable cats on Pittsburgh C.A.T.’s Petfinder page.

Amazon Wish Lists

The Amazon Wish List for our group’s foster kittens.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs. Pittsburgh CAT has a number of wish lists that include foods for feeding neo-natal kittens like KMR, and other lists that include the best kitten foods, adult cat foods, food and materials for feral cats, and preferred toys and litter.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.

“Kennedy”, white and black charcoal on gray toned paper, 5″ x 8″ © Bernadette E. Kazmarski

I fostered Kennedy for the last six weeks of his time in this life, and each day was a joy. If it hadn’t been for an organized group of rescuers Kennedy would never have found his way to my home. He would never have been rescued, and I would never have known him and been able to share him with you. I created this sketch to help cover the costs of his care. I auctioned it off, and encouraged people to donate at least $25.00 and I would send them a print of the sketch. Now $5.00 from each sale goes to benefit the cat rescue I work with, Pittsburgh CAT, or to the Homeless Cat Management Team to help spay and neuter more cats so there won’t be so many to rescue.

Read more about Kennedy and purchase a print of this sketch.
