Cats for Adoption: Adopt Two Kittens, Get Twice the Love and Save!

It’s the season for getting great deals on things you want, and why not when you adopt a cat or kitten too? The adoption fee for a kitten or cat through Pittsburgh CAT is $65.00, but you can adopt two kittens for $100—that’s a 23% savings over the regular adoption fee of $130.00.

Another good reason to adopt two kittens

And the best part of the deal isn’t just the savings. I’ve long heard that “the best toy for a cat is another cat”, and the same goes for kittens. Kittens adapt and develop well when they have a buddy their own age and temperament to hang with. It’s the nature of kittens to be curious and very active, and you might think that two kittens together could be a disaster. Instead they tend to play with each other instead of your drapes, your furniture, your silk flower centerpiece, and they get lots of exercise so they sleep regularly too. They get lots of species-appropriate exercise with all that chasing and wrestling so their little bodies mature with strong muscles and bones, and no matter what happens—the garbage truck goes by or you drop a dish in the kitchen—they’ve always got their buddy to run to so they can figure things out together.

Because all our rescued cats are fostered in homes, we ultimately let them all mingle with our own cats and other household pets and people so we can target the best environment for each cat, and we can tell you a lot about your potential kitty. They also develop friendships this way, sometimes with siblings, sometimes with other fosters, and these are the ones we love to encourage adopters to consider adopting together.

So meet Vinnie and Howie, at the top. We’ve met them before, but here is what their foster, Margo Cicci Wisniewski, has to say about them.

Vinnie and Howie, the Dynamic Duo! If you were thinking about adopting 2 kitties, please give special consideration to these 2! These 2 are survivors and have overcome so much in their short lives, now they just need the perfect home to complete their rescue story! Vinnie came to us as an emaciated kitten, he was living under a UHaul and been exposed to high levels of deet (which is toxic to cats). He was in rough shape, and honestly, we weren’t sure he’d make it.

Howie came to us with a SEVERE eye infection in both eyes. So sever that the first night he was home with his foster, she just cried looking at him. We were certain Howie would lose 1 if not both eyes….but through very dedicated care and vet appointments, Howie was able to keep his eyes and able to save a good bit of his sight.

Howie and Vinnie became “roommates” (they were quite the misfits!) and have become great friends. They would love to stay together!

Vinnie is an absolute lap kitty right off the bat. Howie takes a little longer to decide, but ultimately will want to be curled up with you too! They would LOVE to be home for the Holidays!!! They are both around 5-7 months old, neutered, utd on vaccinations, negative for FIV/FELV.

Hazel and Starr

Their foster says, “Hazel…..female, 5 months, very playful and vocal…Starr…..female, 5 months, fully vetted, quiet observer but loves to be held…..fluffy tuxy”.

But here’s what they have to say about themselves:

“Hi there!! I’m Hazel!! I’m the sweetest little calico girl you ever did see!! I’m a 5 month old calico tabby female who is fully vetted and ready for adoption! I’m a very social girl and I love to be the life of the party! I get along great with other cats and I love to chase jingle balls all over my foster mom’s house!! I would love to be invited to your Holiday party (then invited to stay forever!)….won’t you consider opening your home to me this Christmas? There’s no place like home for the holidays!! ….maybe yours?”

“Hi there!! I’m Starr!! My foster mom says she doesn’t need a star on top of her Christmas tree because she has me!! ….for now that is, lol…..I’m looking for my forever home for Christmas!! I’m a medium length haired black and white tuxy cat….fully vetted and ready for adoption!! I’m a little shy at first, but I love to be held and cuddled! My favorite toys have feathers and bells on them and oh boy do I love to chase things!! Won’t you consider adopting me??”

Adam and Eve…or Donner and Blitzen

A name change is being considered here, but aside from that, these kitties are six months old and both very playful and sweet.

Sammie and Cutie

Really, how could you live without those noses? If they were anywhere near me I’d have to touch those noses all the time! Sammie is actually a calico—note the orange next to her left ear, and they are going to be gorgeous adult cats.

They are about 13 weeks old, spayed, UTD on their shots and negative for FIV/FELV. Very friendly and affectionate!

About these cats

All of these cats are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, had any treatments necessary for their health, is healthy enough to go to a forever home, and currently lives in a foster situation so the foster home can describe more of the cat’s personality and tell you more about their background. You can see them here on the Pittsburgh CAT Facebook page. or on the newly-developed  Pittsburgh CAT Petfinder page!

Amazon Wish Lists

The Amazon Wish List for our group’s foster kittens.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs. Pittsburgh CAT has a number of wish lists that include foods for feeding neo-natal kittens like KMR, and other lists that include the best kitten foods, adult cat foods, food and materials for feral cats, and preferred toys and litter.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.
