From the Archives: More Photos of Kelly in Forget-me-nots
I took several photos of Kelly investigating the forget-me-nots on that morning in May 2012. This is one of the reasons it’s nice to be able to go back through older photos and find new images. Here are her adventures.

Daily Photo Reprise: Kelly Greets the Day, 2012
Ahhh, a good stretch, a good scratch, fresh air and sunshine, the best after-breakfast treat for Kelly. She really showed that top step who was boss, and left enough pheromones behind to scare off a herd of neighborhood cats.
Something about dry wood under their paws has always inspired my cats to have a good scratch-fest. Mimi loves the deck railings, Cookie did too, and in the house my wooden ladder, one of the wooden braces on my old drawing table, and 2×4 lumber in the basement have all been christened by feline claws. Those old carpet-covered things? Eh…I took the carpet off and turned it around to expose the jute backing and that was a hit! but best of all they like the one I left as bare wood when I discovered the carpet had rubber backing. Yes, everyone should have a 4×4 in their dining room.
This is what the steps looked like a little later…

“This is Wet.”
“This is wet. Can you dry it off for me?”
Who could turn down that beautiful face and especially those intensely green eyes? But as much as I’d give her the world, I’m not sure I can dry off the back yard for Kelly.
She doesn’t mind the wet flagstone and flowers, she really just wants to make sure it’s okay if she proceeds. I wanted to get a few more photos of her in the forget-me-nots before I have to cut that portion of my back yard. Torties look so beautiful in forget-me-nots.

Vintage Photos: My Studio Window, Spring 1995
My first black cat, Kublai, sits on the windowsill in the sun in my studio, watching me work, sometime in March or April 1995.
Seeing my cats on the windowsill of the room I designated as my studio has been a view I’ve enjoyed since I moved in here. It’s my spare bedroom, and though it hasn’t always been completely an art studio as it is now for all that time, it was always my room for creative work. And my cats have always been available for supervisory duties. And as we know, seeing my cats in the sun has also inspired a lot of artwork.
It’s also one of the sunniest rooms in the house, especially when I first moved in and hadn’t planted my river birches near the corner of the house to give light shade to the room. My spruce, just outside, was then, as now, an avian high-rise, but was young enough to have green branches all around where now a good bit of the shaded sides are bare of needles.
But watching my cats sunbathe was always one of my favorite things to see, as I looked up from whatever I was doing to see one or more on the windowsill. I have very few photos of Kublai because he was usually riding around on my shoulders or he sat next to me in whatever I was doing, so these good photos are precious. And on this date not only did I have my heart cat there to observe, but in the photo above you’ll see there is another cat to the right of him.
Never far from me then or any time later in all the 20 years she was with me, Cookie, likely learning from Kublai as the one to grow into his spot as my best friend a year or so after he left us, and always near. And both still near, in my heart.

Photos pulled “From the Archives” were taken by one or another digital camera of mine between 2002 and, well, yesterday, but usually they are older than that, and I had never had the chance to feature them. Vintage Photos are from my film archives back to 1983 when I purchased my Pentax K-1000 camera. They’re a fun way to “introduce” other members of my feline family who came and went before I began blogging, and to illustrate my feline family in general from days gone by.

TKelly had been stepping out into the back yard with me now and then, even asking at the door to go out. She’d never shown any interest in the 15 years she’d been with me until the spring we lost Cookie, and I couldn’t help but think she associated the outdoors, and the spring forget-me-nots, with Cookie, as I did. Kelly was now the lone senior cat, and she was very lonely without an older kitty to cuddle with and protect her; she was a little intimidated by the gregarious black cats. (Although the cats move on, they are always in our hearts — which only get bigger. . . .)
When I see them in my folders of photos it’s as if they are still here. I am in my photo archives nearly every day, and not just for cat photos, so I see them all the time. It’s a wonderful way to remember them.
