Adopted: Dino!
A good rescue and adoption story only gets better when, before you have the chance to post the cat’s adoption story—he’s adopted! I had wanted to feature this incredible orange gentleman a few weeks ago, but just as I asked his foster, Mary Kay Gentert, for details, she told me that he had an interested adopter who had scheduled a meet and greet. But wait, it gets better! I knew that adopter. She was none other than Christy, who provided an incredible home to Bert, who is now named Simon! I knew that if she would adopt Dino, this gentle older kitty would have an incredible life with Simon and the housepanther Piper and the tortie Aurora Chanel, who she had rescued from neglect last year. I waited to hear the news before I posted, and of course she couldn’t pass him by!
I said I wouldn’t do it. I said it would be too much… But when you think some soul deserves a second chance at a good life after being beaten, starved, broken (literally), and abused, all reason and practicality take a flying leap out the window! World, Meet my Dino …. Rest easy , my old man… You’re a Pagac animal now!!!!! Thank you, Mary Kay!!!!!!!
Here is Dino’s story from his foster, Mary Kay Gentert:
Dino is a wonderful eight-year-old old gentleman who desperately needs a family to be with. He originally lived with a hoarder that passed away and he was left homeless for approximately six months. When he was rescued he had basically given up all hope of being loved and was not even neutered.
My heart was broken for Dino when we rescued him. He had ZERO hope and was so depressed. I put a SAD lamp on him and made sure he had more than what he needed.
It took him a few weeks to accept love and to feel safe. Dino absolutely loves other cats but cannot be around dogs. He has the most stunning green eyes ever! His favorite toys are a three-tier ball track and most of all his own tail! He loves to be around people and cats, he is not a lap cat, but sits and sleeps next to you. He is incredibly special and deserves a family for him to love.
And so Dino got his wish, and the wish of everyone who knew him. Live happily ever after, Dino!
A good happily-ever-after story is what the Homeless Cat Management Team and Pittsburgh C.A.T. want for all cats, from finding a bottle feeder for orphaned kittens to a quiet loving home for an abandoned senior cat, to a safe colony area for an unsocialized cat. Being able to take a long-neglected cat from the streets and find the perfect forever home for him is one of the best things a rescue organization can do.

Gizmo obviously won’t be ready to adopt for a few weeks at least, but if you can’t wait to meet him all Pittsburgh C.A.T. adoptions begin with our application. After it’s reviewed you’ll be contacted about meeting your cat or kitten. All cats have been fostered in homes and are healthy, spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs. Pittsburgh CAT has a number of wish lists that include foods for feeding neo-natal kittens like KMR, and other lists that include the best kitten foods, adult cat foods, food and materials for feral cats, and preferred toys and litter.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.
There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.
- Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
- Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
- Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
- Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
- Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.
If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.

I fostered Kennedy for the last six weeks of his time in this life, and each day was a joy. If it hadn’t been for an organized group of rescuers Kennedy would never have found his way to my home. He would never have been rescued, and I would never have known him and been able to share him with you. I created this sketch to help cover the costs of his care. I auctioned it off, and encouraged people to donate at least $25.00 and I would send them a print of the sketch. Now $5.00 from each sale goes to benefit the cat rescue I work with, Pittsburgh CAT, or to the Homeless Cat Management Team to help spay and neuter more cats so there won’t be so many to rescue.

Concatulations to Mary Kay and to Dino and the extended feline family! Eight years old is still young. I wish a happy, secure, spoiled life full of love and good times to this precious ginger kit. Good job, everybody!
